UNA-Tampa Bay is proud to announce that we’re partnering with the Tampa Bay Refugee Task Force! The Tampa Bay Refugee Task Force is coordinated through the Florida Department of Children and Families and is funded through federal grants. The Task Force builds partnerships with national, state, and local entities to help refugees settle, integrate, and thrive in our community.
Our Chapter looks forward to this new partnership with the Tampa Bay Refugee Task Force and the opportunity to further engage with and advocate for our local community.
On June 17, the Tampa Bay Refugee Task Force will host World Refugee Day at Pinellas Technical College (PTC). At the event, the United States Citizenship and Immigration Service (USCIS) will naturalize more than 30 former refugees as U.S. citizens. A film screening of Refugees: Road To Success created by PTC’s Digital Video Department will follow. This event is coordinated through PTC, USCIS, the Florida Department of Children and Families Refugee Services, and the Pinellas Refugee Education Program.
In 2015, Hillsborough county became the first welcoming county in the state of Florida.
