UNA-USA Tampa Bay is excited to announce that our annual human rights conference received record-breaking attendance. This year’s conference theme was “Globalism vs. Nationalism” and was the culmination of monthly human rights lectures focused on this theme. Bawa Jain, Secretary-General, The World Council of Religious Leaders and The Millennium World Peace Summit of Religious and Spiritual Leaders, delivered the keynote address.
The conference featured the following presentations:
“Beyond the Media’s Explanation: Examining the Determinants of Attitudes Towards Torture” presented by Mary Anderson, PhD (Political Science, University of Tampa).
“Combating human trafficking in Florida” presented by Dotti Groover-Skipper (Director of Anti-Trafficking – The Salvation Army, FL Divisional HQ).
“Western Imperialism and Human Rights” presented by Spencer Segalla (History, University of Tampa).
“Human Rights and Islam” presented by Nazek Jawad (Interdisciplinary and Global Studies, University of South Florida).
“International Law problems of Conflicts, Humanitarian Law and Prosecution of War-crimes from the Armenian Genocide to Today” presented Marco Rimanelli, PhD (Professor of International Security – St. Leo University, & Fulbright Chair in International Security, EU College of Europe).
“Human Rights and American Policy in the Era of New Nationalism” presented by Michael Rannenberger (President, World Insight Consulting and Former United States Ambassador & Senior US State Department Foreign Policy Advisor).
