We are proud to announce that National Welcoming Week was a tremendous success with over 650 people attending an additional 100+ student volunteers assisting with hosting the event.
This year’s cultural festival was hosted through a collaboration of organizations including UNA-Tampa Bay, the Tampa Bay Refugee Task Force, USF Honors College, the USF Department of Global Health, the Disaster and Humanitarian Relief Student Collaboration, COPTIC, in addition to several other local organizations.
In recognition of this year’s theme, “Small Shoes, Big Journey,” a community shoe drive was organized by 10 year old Rachel Ackey whose father was resettled as a refugee 20 years ago. Rachel was featured on local news station WFLA. Over 350 pairs of shoes were distributed to refugee children.
UNA-USA donated backpacks to children through the Adopt-A-Future Program and private donors.
