UNA-Tampa Bay is proud to announce that three prominent non-governmental organizations (NGOs) have joined our grassroots coalition to promote CEDAW in the Tampa Bay Area!
Our new partners are the Tampa Chapter of the National Organization for Women (NOW), Zonta Club of Pinellas, and the St. Petersburg chapter of Business and Professional Women!
We look forward to future collaborations with these three prominent partners that have served as advocates for women throughout our local community for decades!

Betty Castor, a path breaking figure in Florida Politics, joined UNA-Tampa Bay’s efforts to promote women’s rights in the U.S. and globally through CEDAW (The Convention on the Elimination Against all forms of Discrimination Against Women). As the first woman elected to the Florida State cabinet, the first woman President Pro Tempore of the Florida Senate, and the first woman President of the University of South Florida, Ms. Castor has long been a trailblazer and strong advocate for equality. She continues these efforts by supporting CEDAW.
Currently, Ms. Castor serves as chair of the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board, first appointed by President Barack Obama in 2011.
Ms. Castor, addressing the theme of global women’s rights, endorsed UNA-Tampa Bay’s CEDAW efforts at the Tampa Museum of Art at the the International Studies Association-South (ISA-South) 2015 conference. The ISA-South conference brought together more than 200 scholars from around the United States and the world to present their current research.
UNA-Tampa Bay is honored to have Betty Castor join the growing list of our supporters!
